A little of what I have been doing lately

I managed to fit in an on-line course last year by the very talented Stephanie Lee www.stephanielee.typepad.com. She is amazing. I had never worked with plaster before, but it is so much fun. It can get a bit messy, but it was nice to work that way for a change. This is my first piece. It involves carving into the plaster once it was dry and then adding colour. Stephanie has so many different ways of working with the plaster that I have yet to try. The on-line course isn't currently happening, but she has an E-book worth getting, showing all her techniques.

A work in progress

One of the chipboard journals I have decorated is of a size that I find isn't as intimidating as some of the larger journals. It allows me to pick it up and complete a page in a night. It also allows me to have one photo as a focal point with just a few other elements to look finished. I have designed an album which is 160mm x 155mm. It has a chipboard front and back and 5 black thin card inserts. I use these to start myself off. I know I can add other pages later and so i don't feel pressured. This way I can stop at however many pages I feel is necessary. But, seeing I have titled this book 'All about Me', I might have to opt for a few books!

Decorated MDF Journal

I love the smooth finish that MDF gives me when decorating. It takes paint so well and I find that it is really easy to glue paper to. I decided to add paper to the front of this one, and making the 'cut out' the focal point, showing the photo coming through from page 1. (You will have to scroll down to see page 1 as I messed up the order a bit when posting!)

Black Backgrounds

I love using black as a background for my pages. I have designed the albums with this in mind, but because of the way they are constructed, it is easy to mix and match all sorts of different pages within the album.

I love using banners in my work too, so I made these out of some left over scraps that I had. Lots of those in my studio!

Detail of Page One

The photo has been placed so that it shows through the cut out in the album cover. I altered the photo by scratching around the image, with a sharp tool, as I didn't like the background. You can use this technique if you want a different look or if the background is too busy for the image.
